Explore nature with Mrs. White as your guide!

By Anali Juarez and Stephen Doak

Are you interested in doing something fun like going outdoors and visiting fascinating places? If you are then you should join the Exploration Nature Summer Day Camp. If you do, then you will be able to visit many places, learn about the ecosystem, spend time outside, and have fun with your friends. Sounds like a good summer vacation to us. We asked a few questions to Mrs. White about it, and below are some of her answers.

Q: How did this Summer Program start out?
Mrs. White: It was sponsored by the Friends of Straub Environmental Learning Center.
Q: What will you do?
Mrs. White: I will be leading students to certain areas to compare the ecosystems at the beach, Opal Creek, and several other fun places.
Q: Do you like it?
Mrs. White: I like being outside and working with kids who also like to go outside.
Q: How long has it been around?
Mrs. White: Maybe 3-4 years.
Q: How many students are in it?
Mrs. White: There are usually 12 in the middle school group, and 20 in the elementary school group. They are looking for 20 students total.
Q: Do you think the students in the past liked the program?
Mrs. White: The students loved it!
Q: What is this program all about?
Mrs. White: It’s about studying the environment and what our place is in the environment.
Q: When does it begin?
Mrs. White: Grades 4/5- July 19-23, 2010
Grades 6/7/8- July26-30, 2010

While we were interviewing Mrs. White she told us that everyday of summer camp is like a field trip. Because you won’t have to stay in the same place every single time, you will get the chance to visit different places and learn more about them as you go. Other kids enjoyed it in the past so why don’t you give it a try, too? Ask Mrs. White if you have any questions about the program. You may end up liking it!
